We ended up finding out that the hygrometer only measure to 90% humidity, so its alright for the price but next time i will find a device more suitable.

    Good and cheap

This is a must have upgrade to a desktop humidor that comes with those cheap plastic analog hygrometers. The old one I had still read 80% under a hair dryer!

I haven’t tried calibrating it, but installed it right away and it confirmed my suspicions, my humidor was bone dry. Of course you would think my cohibas looking like tree bark would have clued me in, but like most guys gotta get a new gadget to tell me the obvious!

    unreliable….i don’t believe it

I tried the salt trick….i tried the kits. The numbers just seem to bounce all over the place sometimes. Sometimes I assume its right, but being that the numbers bounce around with such great variance (bounces -+40 for temp and humidity), it can’t be trusted.

Not Water Proof, But Good Buy!

I purchased this hygrometer/thermometer to keep track of the RH in my terrarium. Worked good for about a week but do to the location of placement and constant misting of cage the units LCD blurred, and eventually the unit stopped working all together. I took the unit apart (which i don’t recommend doing) and let it dry out before putting it back together, and still nothing. I recommend this product for lightly humidified cages, if your pet is shedding and misting is required look for another model.

    Fabulously Accurate Hygrometer

Fantastic item!! Have been using this item in my cigar humidor and it displays pretty steady on both humidity and temperature. I did calibrate it more than once before actually using it just because I was not sure how the whole salt test worked. Because the item is coming from a name brand company, I was also expecting to see some specific instructions about how to calibrate the item, but no such luck. Thats what the internet is for. I searched and found printable directions directly from Xikar. [...]. All in all, I would highly recommend this item before purchasing another analog hygrometer. Yeah, you pay a bit more but it’s completely worth it. Every analog hygrometer I have bought has been significantly off, nearly 15% or more. This hygrometer takes all the guess work out and makes it easy to just peep into the humidor for a fast accurate look without even opening if you have a glass top humidor.

    Terrarium Tool!

I bought this thing to keep track of temperature and humidity in my terrarium, and it seems to work just fine. It is both inexpensive and cheap – reasonably priced but also a small plastic trinket that apparently can only be mounted once with a sticky pad on the back. I’ve just perched the thing in my Wardian Case on an upside down cup. Haven’t calibrated the thing yet, but I’m mostly just concerned with relative humidity. Buy it.

This is a very good hygrometer. Small, compact and accurate. Great for any size humidor.

    Xikar hygrometer – works well
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have used the Xikar hygrometer for several months in various cigar humidors, and both the temperature and RH readings are extremely accurate (+/- few degrees or less) when compared against high-quality reference digital temperature and RH meters. The nicest feature is the simple calibration: let the unit sit in a sealed plastic bag with a small amount (15 mL) of moistened salt for 36 hours (many manuals specify 6-24 hours, but I have observed slow RH fluctuations of +/- 5 degrees during up to 24 hours – so I do 36 hours to be safe), and then push and hold the calibration button without opening the bag until the RH reading is a stable 75 F. Be careful not to accidently push the calibration button when handling the hygrometer (apart from calibration).
