Product works, performs as expected

So far so good. Construction is plastic and does not impart confidence of long-term durability by any means. However, it does what it is supposed to do, and unlike some other reviewers I had no issues with the device failing. Still ticking as I write this review.
Anyway, I doubt it will last 10 years, but for the money it is a bargain. The display is easy to read and the extra sensor has a decent length to it. I bought a comparable model from Oregon Scientific 2 years ago (still working) for $10 more than this one cost me, and I would have preferred to buy that one again but Amazon no longer carries it. This was an acceptable alternative.
Excellent indoor/outdoor Thermometer!

I was looking to buy a digital thermometer for my toddler’s room, I did a lot of research and found the features of this thermometer matched my criteria. Features:
- Independent indoor and outdoor sensor.
- Indoor Humidity sensor
- Clock.
So far I have changed the battery only once, it lasts a long time (given you use a brand name alkaline), I would buy this again if I needed another thermometer for other room. Highly recommend it!
it works!

total junk.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This unit is junk. Numbers are not all working, humidity always says 22 or 23 no matter what.
Even the packaging sucked. I am returning this now. Find another one.
worked for only 3 hours

This is the 2nd one i’ve owned-my puppy chewed the 1st one that worked great-i had it for 2 years. This one i had only a few hours and it stopped working. Sent back to amazon for a full refund-i bought a different brand.
Very good

It works fine but the readings are about 4 degrees off. When the outside sensor is placed next to the unit, both readings – in and out – should be the same yet there is a 4 degree difference. Which reading is correct ?????
Not backlit, difficult to see in some light
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This seems to work (numbers are about what I expected) though I have not calibrated it to anything else. While the screen is large and the numbers clear, readability is poor in many light situations. Set up is easy and only 1 AAA battery required. It would be perfect if it could be read in all light situations.
So-so product, not supported by Timex

I purchased this thermometer in order to produce objective evidence about the temperature and humidity in my office during the summer (both uncomfortably high). I loaned it to my wife for the same purpose (but her office was uncomfortably cold). It’s reasonably attractive, and it more or less did what I wanted, but I don’t have a great deal of confidence in the accuracy of its temperature and humidity measurements.
As advertised, the unit measures both “indoor” and “outdoor” temperature, where the indoor temperature is measured directly by the main unit and the outdoor temperature is measured by a probe at the end of a wire that’s (reportedly) 10 feet long. The main problem is that there is a difference between “indoor” and “outdoor” temperature of on average 1.5 degrees when the “outdoor” probe is sitting right next to the main unit. (I have seen this vary from 1.0 degrees to 2.0 degrees, but it usually settles at around 1.5 degrees.) Obviously, there should be no difference. Also, in summer, the humidity seemed to vary too much over short periods of time, and in the winter (when the heat kicks in), the reading is correctly but not very helpfully “low” rather than a specific number.
Technically, the product *does* have a warranty, but warranty follow-up is probably not worth it. When I called Timex about the problem with indoor/outdoor variance, they told me the same thing it says on the back of the product — it’s manufactured by Maverick Industries, and you have to contact them for support. The package provides a web address that’s no good [...], but the company can be reached via their web site at [...]. I have an e-mail in to them now; I’ll update if/when I hear back. The policy on the back of the package is “Repair or replacement will be made at our option without additional charge if the instrument is returned postage paid to [their address]“. The cost of sending the unit to them and providing return postage is probably greater than the cost of the unit, and so not worth it.
In other words, buying this product is a craps shoot. On the other hand, I’ve seen people complaining about similar technical problems in much-more-expensive units. Despite the risk, this might be a better value than most of the rest.
Update: No response from the manufacturer.
This is the way to go!

The ones with the electronic remotes can be hard to sink up. Distance and obstacles become a huge issue. I love the wired feature of this thermometer. This one works perfectly and is never down for any reason, unless the battery dies. I’ve tried many and this one does a great job.
Works Great and Does What It’s Supposed To!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I would have given it five stars if the outside probe was not wired to the unit. I love the big display, and the way it’s arranged (inside temp, outside temp, humidity). The stand works decently, and there’s a hole in the back of the unit to hang it on the wall.
A backlight would have been nice, but thanks to the nice display, it’s not a necessity. I’ve had this for over a week now and love it.
bedroom thermometer
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
got this product to regulate the temperature in my bedroom. its an ok electronic thermometer.
Pros:
- big display screen
- sleek modern look
- easy to use buttons
Cons:
- very basic functionality ( for example the biggest negative for me is that the screen is divided into 3 and one cannot toggle the various functions between the 3 screens – ie upper side of screen is for indoor temperature and you can toggle the clock on that screen, middle screen is for outdoor temperature and cannot toggle anything, and bottom screen is for humidity cannot toggle. So if i want to see the time, inside temperature and humidity at the same time i cannot do this)
all in all for the price its a decent product
Works Great!

I have had this thermometer for over a year now and it works great. Easy to read and accurate. Still running with the original battery!

The Timex TX5170 is working very well for me with it’s large, easy to read digits. I like it.
